6 trios that should be together forever

Three is the magic number.

THEY SAY GOOD things come in threes. And somehow more often than not, they’re right.

Everywhere you look, three is the magic number. It can be especially true in entertainment, where it’s been at the heart of some fantastic music, film and television.

Here are the trios that we can hardly imagine an existence without.

1. Ted, Jack and Dougal

Only 25 episodes of Father Ted were made, meaning that the average Irish person has seen each show 2,375 times (statistics not verified). So ingrained are they in the Irish psyche, that any mention of a Eurovision contest, nun, cup of tea or All-Priests Over-75s five-a-side football championship immediately turns into a competition on who can quote more lines.

2. Walter, Donny and The Dude

The Big Lebowski is the tale of one man’s journey to reclaim a stolen rug, which would sound a lot more necessary if you’d seen just how much this rug ties the room together. They’re one of the most improbable trios in film, a pacifist stoner, a hyper-aggressive Vietnam veteran and….Donny.

3. Dunphy, Giles and Brady

Bill O’Herlihy’s last day in the big chair was a sad one. But we’ve still got the three linchpins of sporting opinion in Ireland. Where would we be without these three gassing away on their (metaphorical) high stools?

Well, we’d be lost. After all, how would we know who to disagree with?

4. The Barrytown trilogy

The travails of the Rabbitte family, told through three novels, have become synonymous with both literature and film in Ireland. Each protagonist manages to be hilarious, endearing, and opportunistic while also somehow remaining grounded in a reality that anyone that’s ever stepped foot in the capital immediately relates to.

The working-class Dublin family has never been epitomised better; a community consisting of dreamers, realists, and the odd Georgie Burgess to boot.

5. The (original) Star Wars trilogy

Almost every famous trilogy has one instalment that lets it down. Think “Godfather 3″, “Back to the Future 3″, and that time that Danny DeVito and Diane Keaton did dog voices for some reason on “Look Who’s Talking Now”.

Star Wars achieved the impossible, sequels that actually improved upon the original. It’s spawned enough fan fiction and mild outrage to last a lifetime…HAN SHOT FIRST.

6. Seth, Evan and Fogell

Superbad was long overdue, a “high-school” movie that finally gave us real, relatable characters instead of the usual jock, nerd, outcast tropes. Everyone relates to this trio, because each of them reminds us of someone we went to school with.

It’s also a harsh reminder of how awkward it was to be a 16 year old.

One trio that we’ll never get enough of is Jameson, ginger and lime. It’s a simple, classic combination that’s best served with good company. Check out the video below to learn more about the perfect serve.
