Is ‘press’ country? It might be. I don’t encounter it in the ‘Big Shmoke’ – anyone else have thoughts on this? We might have to make it our next Burning Question!

There’s definitely no confusion in Ireland about hot press. City or country, it’s ‘hot press’, right? It’s where that other great staple of Irish domestic life lives – the immersion. (“Did I turn the immersion off when I left the house this morning?”)

Yep, ‘press’ is grand, so it is, begob, but not for opened jam for the love of all that’s decent.

The press is fine, but unless its homemade, stick in the fridge after opening if not eaten in a couple days which it usually is in this house.

Hi Reada, To be fair to Michael and Sinéad (and to the other writers on the site), they all post a large number of articles a day and keep an eye on the comments on those articles which they specifically write. That means that their attention is divided between all of those comments sections (as well as trying to research, interview and write new articles).
As I am the editor of the site and occupied with other overview tasks, I write fewer articles than the other staff members in here. That means that I have significantly fewer comments sections to watch over – so it’s probably much easier for me to be more intensively engaged in the ones I am involved with! Just want to clarify that, as I say, to be fair to the very hard-working team in here.
But thanks for the comment and I’ll pass it on because user engagement is very important and pretty much shapes what we do so we always appreciate the feedback!

Technically, it shouldn’t be freezing cold (i.e. sub-zero) unless your fridge is broken, or perhaps upside down and you’re putting it in the freezer.
