Gardaí asked three Tesco off-licences to close ahead of yesterday's Ireland match

Move along folks, nothing to buy here.

TESCO HAS CONFIRMED that Gardaí requested that three of its stores close their off licences in the hours before the Ireland v Poland match at the Aviva yesterday.

The Tesco stores at Ringsend, Sandymount and Baggot Street Upper temporarily suspended the sale of alcohol between the hours of 4pm and 7.30pm.

In a statement Tesco said the Gardaí had “contacted a number of retailers in advance”.

To support the Gardai and our community with public safety, we adhered to this request and apologized to customers for any inconvenience

A Garda spokesperson told DailyEdge.ie that the request for the closure would have been made by Gardaí at a local level, and they they weren’t immediately aware of how many premises in the area had been asked to impose a similar halt on the sale of alcohol.
