Grown Ups

World Cup fans are being incredibly mature about the ref's disappearing spray foam

Just really adult and sophisticated.

ONE OF THE most obvious technical innovations of this World Cup is the disappearing spray foam used by referees.

They use it to mark lines on the pitch for free kicks, which then disappear a few seconds later.

You’d think that this might start football fans making all kinds of juvenile jokes about the ref drawing mucky things on the pitch.

But in fact, discussion of the foam on Twitter has been extremely serious and thoughtful.

Sophisticated, even.

There has been genuine, well-reasoned debate about its use.

And while feelings have run high on both sides…

… luckily the tone of the discussion has remained extremely cultured.

And in the end, fans were quick to find the common ground that all rational, mature adults could agree on.

Good work, football fans!
