I agree. I think his eccentricity makes him interesting. I often get the sense he’s very constrained by his position and that if he were given a free reign (pardon the pun) he’d come across as a lot less stuffy. Must be hard knowing that you’ll be well past pension age before you can take up the role for which you’ve been in training all your life.

Times are changing and people are moving on the atrocities that happened in this Country will never be forgotten. If you re read the articles/comments about wearing the Poppies from last week you will find that there are far less West Brits than you think. This article was I think a bit of tongue in cheek and perhaps be read that way. Not another chance for us Irish having yet another moan about the Brits !

@ Martin I very much live in the present. Being aware of the past and one’s history does not imply being stuck in the past. It reflects an understanding and appreciation of events, good and bad, that shape who we are today. So if anyone is being shallow it is yourself.

As Michael pointed out, Daily edge stories are actually quite easy to spot, they have a red D in the top corner of the image that links to the stories.

Sports stories have an S and Business stories have a B. I have no interest in sports stories for example, so I just avoid any stories with an S in the picture, which saves me from reading them, and then commenting to tell people how little I care about them. I’m sure people who are actually interested in Sports have no interest in my opinion.

Hi Caroline! Some Daily Edge stories are also posted in the Journal stream, and vice versa. You can spot Daily Edge stories by the red ‘D’ in the top right of the image, and they’re generally light-hearted in tone (like this one). Hope that helps!
