7 things you maybe think are Irish… but aren’t

Prepare to have your illusions shattered.

A SURVEY BY the Love Irish Food campaign has revealed that shoppers are frankly baffled by the products in their baskets.

There’s widespread belief that some items are Irish-made, when they are in fact nothing of the kind.

And it’s not just the shopping, either:

7 things you maybe think are Irish… but aren’t
1 / 6
  • Lyons tea

77 per cent believed that Lyons tea is Irish. It isn't.
  • Siúcra

80 per cent of those surveyed believed Siúcra sugar is Irish. DENIED.
  • HB ice cream

71 per cent believed that HB is produced in Ireland. NOT A BIT.
  • Cully and Sully

Cully and Sully ready-made foods were originally Irish... but are now produced in the UK.
  • Boyne Valley Honey

Is packaged in Drogheda... but the honey is produced in the EU. NOT SO SWEET* *May in fact be just as sweet
  • St Patrick

The final insult: St Patrick was not only British, he only came to Ireland because he was forced to. Depending on who you believe, he was either brought over as a slave... or fled to avoid taking up a nasty job, and became a slave trader himself. Sorry, everyone. This country practically doesn't exist. (Image: Wikimedia Commons)

And the final insult:

Neither Sally O’Brien nor the way she might look at you are made in Ireland. The actress, Vicki Michelle, is English. So the Harp Lager guy’s yearning’s are TOTALLY misplaced.

Does this country even exist anymore?
