NOEL GALLAGHER WAS crowned a Godlike Genius at the NME Awards last night.
The former Oasis musician played a set of his hit songs, including Don’t Look Back in Anger and If I Had A Gun, to close the event.
Other performers included Florence and the Machine, Kasabian, Pulp and The Horrors.
Big winners included Florence – who beat Adele to Best Solo Artist – and Foo Fighters, who were named Best International Band.
The awards are an annual event crowning NME readers’ favourite indie rock bands, festivals, films and TV shows, and as befits the mag, the awards are bronze gongs in the shape of a hand giving a one-fingered salute.
The Greatest Music Moment of the Year was when the Stone Roses united, while Glastonbury was chosen as best festival.
Comedian Noel Fielding’s The Scribblings of a Madcap Shambleton won best book – beating Jared Leto, Jarvis Cocker, Shaun Ryder… and Malcom X.
Hero of the Year was Muse frontman Matt Bellamy – and Justin Bieber was named Villian of the Year.
Bieber went on to win the gong for Worst Album, ahead of Coldplay, Lady Gaga, One Direction and Viva Brother.
As for the aesthetically minded, Jared Leto of 30 Seconds to Mars was named Hottest Male, while flame-haired Hayley Williams of Paramore scooped Hottest Female.
