Lupita Nyong'o's Oscars dress returned after thieves discover pearls are 'fake'

Ooh-err.

LUPITA NYONG’O'S Oscars dress has been returned after the thieves discovered the pearls covering the dress were ‘fake’.

The dress was pinched from the Kenyan actress’ hotel room on Wednesday night.

The custom Calvin Klein gown was said to have been worth $150,000, and embellished with around 6,000 real Akoya cultured pearls of various sizes.

Gossip website TMZ claims that the thief himself called them with the tip – he said that he stole the dress after he noticed the door to the hotel room was ajar.

The ‘thief’ then took two pearls from the dress to be examined by a jeweller, where he was told they weren’t real.

After that bitter disappointment, the thief bundled the dress into a black bin bag and dumped it in a bathroom back at Lupita’s hotel, where it was found by police.

From TMZ:

The thief told us he returned the bag and called us because he wanted the world to know “Hollywood’s fake bulls**t.”

So you can’t even make a good honest living from robbing the rich and famous any more. Shame.
