Ireland's Hozier has won an international award for 'breaking borders' with music

Is there anything he CAN’T do?

HOZIER’S INTERNATIONAL success is continuing, just days after he knocked it out of the park on Saturday Night Live.

The Wicklow lad has now been nominated for a pan-European award given to artists who ‘break borders’ with their work.

The European Border Breakers Awards (EBBAs) are given to ten artists from around Europe. This year’s other winners include Germany’s Milky Chance and Norwegian DJ Todd Terje.

They are designed to reward artists whose work breaks the language barrier and achieves success across Europe. A press statement said:

Europe’s cultural and linguistic diversity is a strong part of its cultural appeal, but linguistic barriers sometimes make it harder for artists to work internationally and achieve cross-border sales success. The EBBA seek to help them overcome these obstacles.

Hozier picked up the award after the breakout success of his first single Take Me To Church, which wowed viewers in the US earlier this year and in the UK a couple of weeks ago on his Jools Holland debut.

Jools Holland will also host the official award ceremony, which takes place in the Netherlands in January of next year.
