Any escapees? Annual zoo census throws up challenge

How do you tell one penguin from another?

EVER TRY TO count a colony of penguins? This was zookeeper Pippa Green’s task at Bristol Zoo in England this week, when the zoo started its annual mammoth task of counting every creature in their care.

The time-consuming chore can throw up interesting challenges – from finding a suitable method for counting thousands of tiny insects to distinguishing one penguin from another.
