DUBLIN BAND THE Cast of Cheers have suffered a blow of bad luck after some of their equipment was stolen from a house they’ve just moved into in London.
They’re due to play at the Electric Picnic festival in Stradbally this weekend.
The band had only moved to London in recent weeks to begin work on their second album, and had not yet arranged content insurance for their belongings. They tweeted about the mishap at the weekend:
Independent Irish record label the Richter Collective have posted a list of the gear stolen, and it includes a Macbook Pro, a whammy pedal and a Korg keyboard. They’re also asking fellow musicians to keep an eye out for the items for sale online or in second hand stores. The equipment is believed to be worth several thousand euro.
Music blogger Nialler9 and Irish music website Golden Plec are among those appealing for people to donate to the band via PayPal, with Nialler9 reminding music fans that The Cast of Cheers gave their first album – which was well received by critics and nominated for the 2010 Choice Music Prize – away for free.
The Cast of Cheers have tweeted their thanks for the words of support and donations, and said that they were feeling “strangely upbeat” about their gear being returned.
