Strangers donate money online for US man robbed during Liffey rescue

Karma strikes again.

JOE SHEEHAN MADE headlines last week as the man who saved another man from drowning in the Liffey.

While he was carrying out this heroic act however, someone made off with his wallet and smartphone which he had left next to his clothes on the banks.

Joe was a tourist from the US, studying in Oxford for the summer and visiting Dublin for a few days in the meantime.

He spotted the man in the river after just a few hours in the city, while looking for a hostel to stay in for the night. His training as a lifeguard kicked in and he jumped in to save the man.

When the two climbed safely out of the water, Joe only had his clothes left.

Now, a crowdfunding page has been set up to help Joe replace his lost possessions, which added up to around $500 in total. The good samaritans of the internet have so far donated $755.

As well as that, Joe was treated to a night out by some onlookers to the incident, who also helped him organise food, accommodation and travel for the rest of his stay.

Go karma!
