One seriously decked-out Christmas tree at the Wright family home, 1900. Library of Congress Prints and Photographs Division Washington, D.C.
Have your say

Open Thread: what are your coolest (or weirdest) Christmas tree decorations?

The Wright Brothers knew how to deck out this tree to the max – but what have been your most memorable decorations?

WHILE SEARCHING THROUGH the archives of the US Library of Congress recently, we came across this lavishly decorated tree from Christmas in Ohio, 1900 among the papers of aviation pioneers Wilbur and Orville Wright.

The century-old image reminded us of some of the more remarkable decorations we’ve seen over the years or have put on our own trees – including some of the glitter-and-cotton-wool creations we came home from school with.

So, we’re asking if you can remember the coolest or most unusual decorations you’ve ever put on a Christmas tree. (TheJournal.ie‘s Jody Sheridan had a few ideas earlier today…) Let us know in the comments below! (Or better yet, send us pics of your Christmas trees to tips@thejournal.ie)
