VOICE ACTRESS CHRISTINE Cavanaugh who voiced a number of beloved animated characters in the 1990s has died. She was 51.
Cavanaugh is arguably best known for voicing Babe in the acclaimed 1995 film of the same name. The film earned over $250 million at the box office and was nominated for seven Academy Awards.
However, television is where Cavanaugh enjoyed most of her success.
Aside from lending her voice to animated series such as Sonic The Hedgehog, The Critic and Aaahh!!! Real Monsters, she also voiced two characters that will no doubt be very familiar to 90s kids – Chuckie from Rugrats and Dexter from Dexter’s Laboratory.
She also made appearances on shows such as E.R., Everybody Loves Raymond and The X-Files.
Cavanaugh retired from voice acting in 2001 to be closer to her family.
In an obituary published today, her family wrote:
Christine has touched many lives, some we know and others we do not. Whether she was a baby sitter as an adolescent, a voice in a cartoon, an aunt, a sister, and friend, young or old it didn’t matter. She always made the most of where you were and what circumstance arose. Her imagination, humor and intelligence were evident to anyone who had the pleasure of meeting her. It was of no surprise when she was able to share her talents with the world.
They went on to note that her personality was evident even in her voice work.
Many know of her from the roles she played, but in each role there was a part of her showing through that the ones who truly knew her could see. The childlike awe of the world, humor to deal with the unpleasantness of reality, strength to deal with the challenges we all face, and intelligence to know when to act or accept what fate had allowed.
