IS IT AN embarrassing dads’ convention? Is it a U2 concert? Is there even a difference? Anyway, it’s the Ninth German Air Guitar Championship.
The prestigious national event for would-be shredders and gurners took place in Berlin on Saturday, with contestants lining up to demonstrate their skills on the invisible axe.
According to the tournament’s website, four-time champion Christian Sweep – who rejoices in the air guitar name Heart Buckboard – took his fifth title with “a fun mix of music from Korn, Metallica and cat sounds”.
The site give a comprehensive list of terms and conditions for player, including Air Guitar Rule #1: “The instrument must consist of air, that is to be invisible.” (Full list here via Google Translate.)
