Meet the couple planning Ireland’s first YouTube childbirth

Welcome to the lives of the Saccone-Jolys.

CHILDBIRTH. IT’S THAT magical, messy, agonising moment (or long, drawn-out series of moments) when a new life comes into the world.

It’s also extremely painful, very intimate and usually private. So it ought to fit right in on YouTube.

A Cork couple plan to become the first (as far as we know?) in Ireland to broadcast the birth of their baby over the internet, as part of their reality show.

Jonathan and Anna Saccone-Joly have been filming their show, The SacconeJolys, daily for two years now. And the birth of their daughter Emilia (due today) is the next step.

“It was sort of an organic progression,” he told the Daily Edge.

We started this show two years ago, we started with 100 viewers and now we’re pulling in two million a month. So you share more. It’s like, let’s encompass more and more parts of our life.

The couple film every morning to produce a roughly half-hour episode of the show each day. “From eight or nine o’clock to 12 or one, that’s production time. We might shoot an hour a day, then I’ll turn it into 20 minutes,” Jonathan says.

YouTube/LeFloofTV

He adds that his wife is happy with the decision to film the birth, which will not be broadcast live but edited into the next day’s episode – though “there’ll be Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and all that”.

Of course it’s more of her that’s going to be exposed and vulnerable. But it’s my wife, so I’m not going to put her naked on the internet. I’m not going to film anything too private. We would be conservative in a way, we tend to keep away from stuff like sex and money.

Their reality show is “growing at a huge rate”, he says, adding that he hopes it will provide for his new family.

I’m one part producer, one part husband. I care for my wife and my child, but I want to send Emelia to uni. I want to have a house, I want to provide for my wife and my children.

You can watch all previous episodes of The SacconeJolys on YouTube here.

  • I love the Internet. It is so convenient and useful. I love The Journal, I love Netflix, I love X-Box Live, I love being able to find out anything I want within moments on my phone. I hate working from home but I love that I can if I have to. The internet may well be one of mankinds greatest achievements.

Watching that video nearly ruined the Internet for me.

  • Truly awful couple with their American accents. Jonathan would do well to get a job if he is to look after his daughter. He’s already punching leagues above and I don’t see it lasting.

I discovered Anna Saccone’s blog when I found out that I was pregnant with my first child and wanted share with women who were going through the same experience. Lots of women talk about their pregnancy on Youtube and it’s just one extra place to chat to other women, talk about your pregnancy with other people from different areas in the world, it’s a bit of fun more than anything and I’ve met some nice people through following pregnancy blogs. It doesn’t mean that I have a “shit” life, as I said it’s just a bit of fun. Also, the press are making such a big deal out of the Saccone-Joly birth : Out of the whole process, they’ll probably only end up showing about 10 percent of it and even then, only if it actually goes well. Birth is part of life and I don’t see what’s so awful about sharing a part of that with others (while keeping some intimacy of course which I think they’ll manage to do through editing)

  • Child birth has been overly romantacised…. To quote from scrubs, The reality is You’ll fart, poop, pee, and scream, all in front of ten complete strangers, all of whom are staring intently at your vagina, which, by the way, has an 80 per cent chance of tearing.

You got countryside cork, northern Ireland and even many Dublin accents with inner city accents and the posher accents so the comment about Irish accents portraying stupidity is simply daft. Which accent is being referred to?

  • Fair enough they show the world their own personal lives, why I dunno, yet oddly people like knowing the insides and outs of other peoples. They have agreed in a sense to give up their own privacy their own personal lives. But does the baby even though it wont know why their is a video camera in front of his/her face in the first moments of their life but does the baby not have a right to privacy. Maybe the baby just wants their own birth private between him/her their mam and dad. My only hope is it has the strength to knock the camera out of their dads arm.

They began recording their life a couple of years ago, not for the money, just for the fun. It’s turned into such a big/important thing in their life. They have already shared a video of their wedding and that’s one major milestone so they’re filming the birth of their next milestone, What is so wrong with that?
Most people these days film their child being born, they’re vlogging the day of the birth and putting it on their channel for their fans to see, what is so wrong with that?
And for your information, they have not got american accents, they have Irish accents. Totally different from American ones.
Why give them hate if you don’t even know anything about them, their lives or watch their videos.

I personally know Jonathan, as I used to work with him in Dublin, and he is a really nice guy. I don’t know Anna, but she seems like a lovely person too, and had her own channel on youtube (The Style Diet), before they started doing daily vlogs together.
So what if they make videos on their lives, they are not the only ones! If you don’t like this type of thing, fair enough, no one is forcing you to watch it, but don’t judge people based on what they do. You don’t know them, so why be so nasty about them?
And as for the accents, yes Anna has an American accent, she’s from there, but moved to Cork in her teens! Jonathan is from Dublin, and to me he sounds like he’s from Dublin!?

I find it very embarrassing if I’m quite honest. Perhaps some people do “put on” the accent but not every Twangy Irish person. Generally people I meet like to suggest reasons why I have it or seem to enjoy pushing me for a proper reason. I love “proper” Irish accents (I can’t think of one regional Irish accent I bear any dislike towards) but I don’t like the overwhelming judgement that comes from not having one.

  • They make a living from their show. It pays their rent, bills, feed their dogs & themselves, bought them everything they need for their baby. I watch them, and I really like them. They’re not American, half of you must be deaf. Not sure if it’s jealousy or what, but some of your comments are shocking. Don’t watch the show if you don’t want to. As a fan of the Saccone-Joly’s, I’m pleased they’re willing to share this much with us. It’s their full-time job, so obviously they make enough money, and they seem to live very comfortably. If YOU could film a video everyday and make that much money, you probably would. They’re a normal couple filming their everyday lives, and pulling in 2,000,000 viewers a MONTH. That’s a lot of money. Don’t like it? Don’t watch it, simples.

Can people stop having a go at their accents, Anna’s Mother is Irish and her father was Italian but spent a lot of time in America. Anna grew up in America. And there is nothing wrong with Jonathan(Jofus)’s accent. Personally I’ve watch their show for nearly and a year now and think they are a respectable beautiful couple who love each other. I can’t wait until little Emilia arrives and makes it a real SacconeJoly family she is blessed to have them as parents.

  • I came across her fashion videos on YT a few years ago. What caught my attention was that she would constantly draw your attention to the fact that she has an hourglass body shape as if it’s the most important thing in one’s life. Nevertheless I don’t think she’s putting on any accent. Her mixed accent is a result of her life experience. And I don’t think she’s being used by her husband. They both like to be in the spotlight, which is something that strikes me as un-Irish. But whatever makes them happy. I’m just not surprised to find out that they started to do reality tv. It’s big on YT .I actually like the shaytards. Especially mommytard. She’s a grounded person. Genuinely beautiful, but not stuck up or superficial.

The Irish accent is far too embarrassing for the new generation – and who can blame them? There is so much shame attached to it.

I’ve never heard a native from Newcastle or Liverpool putting on a fake American accent, probably because they are not ashamed of their accents.

What I do notice is a large portion of Irish youths resorting to fake American accents in order to hide their identity, or lack thereof.

    • And your point, Sean? “We all want to speak English”, oh, ok, 99.9% of us want to speak English.. you got me there.

Back on topic. I see that this YouTube couple are from Cork. Do you think they’d get 30k view per video if they spoke in Cork accents?

It’s no surprise that Irish youth are desperate to cling on to American and British culture in order to form some sort of identity for themselves. They are brought in in a country that has long since ditched its own indigenous culture in favour of Anglo / British culture.

It’s funny, but sad at the same time. to see these confused people trying to mask their accents in order to fit in.

    • I am sorry but that is the most ridiculous thing I have heard in a long while (actually I think a previous comment complaining about the mass being held in Dublin castle was another one). First off an example of shame please? Who on earth is ashamed of their Irish accent and ashamed of what? Secondly .. an air of stupidity – well now thats just being prejudice. I don’t think you can assume one’s IQ levels are low because they don’t pronouncer the ‘th’ in words.

I aslo know from personal experience, and Im sure there is many that when travelling abroad when someone hears an Irish accent – In a lot of places – people gravitate towards you looking for the ‘craic’, so I cannot understand why one would hide it.

But I did a quick look on your twitter and seen that you’re from ulster and you guys up there don’t have an Irish accent – and I’m sorry, you must be jealous of our awesomeness.

    • In fairness William the faux accent thing can be specific to certain locations. I know of a private secondary school where the well to do students put on a culchie accents in their gang and revert to the posh well to do accents when talking to mummy or daddy on the phone. Quiet hilarious to hear. So that’s an example of the exact reverse of what you said where these kids are embarrassed by their accent (which frankly is a faux posh English accent) and prefer a culchie Irish accent.

“It’s funny, but sad at the same time. to see these confused people trying to mask their accents in order to fit in.” I think the confusion is in your own head mate.

    • of course people in the north have an Irish accent! Are you trying to say that a South Armagh accent is that different to a Monaghan accent that it’s not Irish, or that a Derry accent is that different to a Donegal accent that it’s not Irish?

Anyway accents are hardly that great a form of an identity. Only Language can fulfil that requirement.

William, you have a ridiculous view of history if you think the Irish just “ditched” our culture and language. I’m afraid it was part of a systematic plan by the English and then British state to eradicate it. Not even the revisionists deny that.

Anna was born in the states and has a part American, part Italian family which could explain why she has a slight American lilt. But to honest, I don’t think that either of them purposely put an accent on, you don’t hear Jonathan trying to pronounce “TH” like an English person, he always says “tree” instead of “three” which to me is about as Irish as you can possibly get!And I certainly don’t think that there is any shame attached to their heritage, they often talk about Ireland, Irish culture, the place they live, they really don’t come across as self hating Irish people. But of course you can’t tell that by watching a little bit of a 20 minute video…

The thing is at no point did you say ‘i believe’ or ‘i think’ or similar, You assume you are stating fact. Needless to say by the responses and red thumbs your getting your opinion is more than wrong its just designed to incite a response or even more so a reaction. Opinions like yours are what has kept the six counties back for so long. It’s just plain ignorance.
From my point of view Irish people are more in touch as a whole with their culture and heritage than many other nations. I have a strong midlands accent (not seen as the nicest in our large selection of accents on this island) and I have had it while living on 4 continents and 15 years out of the midlands. I’m proud of it, and I enjoy listening to other Irish accents, as do many of the English speaking world.
You by default have proved you hate Ireland, its culture and even they way its people (of which your are one) speak. Accents in the north are neither British or American as much as it might hurt you to admit they’re Irish. So as bigoted as your opinion might be you will have to come to accept that its only ever going to be that. Your opinion..
