A YOUNG WOMAN has been rescued after spending four days in the Australian bush wearing only a bikini.
Emily O’Brien, 24, from Brisbane says she had lost hope of being found alive after she was abandoned in the outback. She says she and her friend Matthew Cain, 33, had been bushwalking on Thursday when he left her behind and walked off.
She told the Courier Mail that when she kept stopping for a drink, he would shout at her to ‘hurry up’. The distance between them kept growing until she eventually lost sight of him, according to O’Brien.
“I didn’t think I’d get out alive,” she said.
Cain reported her missing to Springbrook National Park and a search helicopter discovered O’Brien on Sunday. She said she had slept under foliage at night and drank water.
Paramedics told Channel 7 news that O’Brien was suffering minor exposure but otherwise in good condition considering the circumstances. “She wasn’t dressed for survival,” one paramedic said.
Australian authorities say they are investigating the incident and plan to interview Cain.
