Model with rare skin condition unveiled as face of two major fashion campaigns

WINNIE HARLOW, A 19-year-old Canadian model, was announced as the face of two major fashion campaigns this week.

Why the fuss?

Because Harlow suffers from a rare skin pigment disorder called vitiligo, which causes the loss of colour in some patches.

This week, Harlow was unveiled as the face of Spanish brand Desigual’s spring/summer 2015 campaign.

She also stars in Diesel’s latest campaign, which is entitled Say Something Nice and aims to promote “tolerance, equality and unconditional love”.

Harlow was diagnosed with the condition when she was four years old, but came to prominence when she appeared as a contestant on the most recent cycle of America’s Next Top Model.

Since then, she has starred in an Eminem video, been appointed brand ambassador Desigual and amassed over 444,000 followers on Instagram.

Her latest campaigns are seen as denoting a shift in the fashion industry and have sparked messages of support.
