THE WIFE OF one of the trapped Chilean miners discovered her husband’s secret mistress at the entrance to the mine while they were both holding separate vigils for him.
Marta Salinas is the wife of Yony Barrios, and was at a vigil for her husband when she heard Susana Valenzuela shouting his name.
Salinas has vowed to wait for Barrios. “Barrios is my husband. He loves me and I am his devoted wife. This woman [Valenzuela] has no legitimacy.”
But Valenzuela is similarly determined to wait for the return of Barrios: “We are in love. I’ll wait for him.” Valenzuela added that Barrios was planning to leave his wife before he became trapped in the mine.
Barrios has become a leader among the trapped men after he vaccinated all 33 men in the mine against flu and pneumonia. The miners were given training this week on how to speak to the public and media once they come out of the mine.
