Watch: L'Oréal's top 6 adverts as it celebrates 40 years of 'being worth it'

I’m worth it, you’re worth it, they’re worth it… ah sure aren’t we all worth it in the end really…

GO ON, ADMIT it, you’re in the shower, you whack a bit of L’Oréal on your hair and you utter those four famous words “Because I’m Worth It”.

Well it turns out those four famous words are 40-years-old this year and the famous Parisian cosmetic and beauty firm is celebrating “a landmark anniversary for a mythical slogan”.

According to L’Oréal those four words “are bound to the time of their creation”. At the time it was all about the fact the product was more expensive but that this was justified because of its “revolutionary” quality.

But it’s actually a bit more than that, a “social significane emerged”, says L’Oréal and “a woman’s value was to be found not only in her physical beauty but also in her sense of self-worth”.

Cyril Chapuy, the company’s brand global president explains more:

This celebration is about the extraordinary journey of a slogan that resonates today more than ever with women’s aspirations all around the globe.

It reflects a certain vision of Beauty, made of self-esteem and empowerment, two values which we are very proud to have at the core of our Brand.

Well that’s great, but we thought we’d celebrate the anniversary of the phrase by looking back at some of its more famous utterances by some of the world’s most famous people and David Ginola.

So without further ado and in no particular order here’s our top six:

Jennifer Aniston

The Friends star lets us in a little secret about her new relationship. Are you ready for the science bit? Because it’s coming, right now (via ):

Cheryl Cole

“Weak, limp, lifeless” and she’s not talking about Ashley Cole. No Cheryl is having some hair trouble but luckily some cracking shampoo is on hand. Ye cannae beat a bit of L’Oréal, pet… or something (via ):

David Ginola

Of course it’s not just women getting involved in this whole L’Oréal business, former Tottenham winger and French international Ginola wanted in on the action and there was a perfectly reasonable explanation for that, he just wanted to feel good about the way he looked. Can you really begrudge him that? (via )

Andie MacDowell

More famous for her adverts than for her movies? Well that’s debatable but Andie MacDowell was certainly serious about her hair. She even took out insurance on its colour. Ah here (via ):

Meredith Baxter-Birney

Ms Baxter-Birney warns us that we can’t touch her hair. Sorry love, we weren’t really intending to anyway. No doubt about thought, it looks lovely in this classic 1979 ad (via www.fuzzymemories.tv):

Eva Longoria

Lashes as long as Longoria’s? Can you say that ten times fast? Bet you can’t but you’ll like this. Go on, watch this as she’d say herself (via ):
