FIREWORKS DISPLAYS ARE designed to go with a bang, but this one made more of an impression than most.

The audience at a Bonfire Night event in Oban, Scotland, were looking forward to a twenty-minute display. But things ended prematurely when all €7,000 worth of fireworks went off at once – meaning the event was over in just 50 seconds.

Local councillor Roddy McCuish told the BBC: “When I did announce ‘that was it’, people thought I was joking. The operative explained to me there had been a terrible malfunction.”

Happily, local residents were good-humoured about the blunder, which was blamed on an electronic timing fault. One told the Scotsman: “It was the best fireworks display I have ever seen, despite its brevity.”
