BACK IN OCTOBER, David Lynch announced that he would be resurrecting the cult television series Twin Peaks for a six-part miniseries.
Since then, several beloved television shows have announced comebacks, including The X Files, Heroes and Coach.
Unfortunately for Twin Peaks fans, however, the wonderfully surreal series has suffered a big setback and its fate is currently hanging in the balance.
Over the weekend, word began to filter out from WonderCon that David Lynch had departed the series and Showtime would not be proceeding with the planned reboot.
Soon afterwards, fans took to Twitter to express their disappointment.
Last night, David Lynch released a statement regarding his departure from the show and, quelle surprise, it appears to be down to money. (Or lack thereof.)
Lynch stated that he pulled the plug on the project due because he felt “not enough money was offered” by Showtime and confirmed that he had called cast members this weekend to inform them of his decision. (Kyle McLachlan, who starred in the original, had signed up for the reboot.)
Now fans are lobbying Netflix to take over the project.
