Twilight Breaking Dawn film blamed for seizures

US reports claims that graphic birthing scene in the latest instalment of the Twilight film series may have triggered seizures in its viewers.

THE LATEST INSTALLMENT of the Twilight vampire film series has been blamed for inducing seizures in a small number of audience members in the US.

A birthing scene in the first part of Twilight: Breaking Dawn Part 1 which involves flashes of red, white and black are thought to have sparked photosensitive epileptic seizures which are induced by flashing lights or contrasting visual patterns.

A couple who spoke to CBS13 in Sacramento, California said that one of them blacked out during the graphic scene and remembers nothing of the incident. His friend said that he had been having convulsions and appeared to have difficulty breathing.

Meanwhile, ABC reports that a man in Utah who did not wish to be identified also suffered a seizure while watching the film in a cinema. He said that when he and his wife returned to the cinema the following day, they were told that a girl had had a similar experience during an earlier screening.

Dr Michael G Chez of the Epilepsy Foundation told CBS that a single seizure is unlikely to cause serious damage to most people.

Twilight: Breaking Dawn Part 1 is the first half of the final part of the series, and the film pulled in $139.5 million in its opening weekend in the US and over $280 million worldwide.
