Twitter Xmas Single

Tweeters hope for charity success with #TwitterXmasSingle

A Christmas charity single will be recorded in Dublin today thanks entirely to the power of Twitter.

A CHRISTMAS CHARITY single will be recorded today thanks entirely to the power of Twitter which has helped recruit musicians, singers and production crew to record the song in Dublin today.

Well over a hundred people are taking part in the recording of the #TwitterXmasSingle in aid of the neo-natal unit at the National Maternity Hospital on Holles Street in Dublin at the Westin Hotel this afternoon.

All of those taking part recruited through Twitter.

Organiser, Brenda Drumm says she has been “completely overwhelmed” by the response to an idea she came up with last Saturday and which has become a reality today.

The group of tweeters will record Winter Song, made famous by Ronan Keating and which is used in O2′s Christmas ad this year.

However, this version will be different with a unique Irish take on the tune involving uilleann pipes, the bodhrán and tin whistles, according to Drumm.

Speaking from the Westin Hotel this afternoon, Drumm told TheJournal.ie: “I just cant believe it. The response really shows the power of Twitter.

“This is not about celebrities getting involved, it’s everyday people. It’s all happened because of ordinary people.”

She said that it was hoped the single could be launched in the next week and said there was no target in terms of how much money they wanted to raise but already €200 has been donated to the cause this morning.

You can follow the progress of today’s events at the Westin Hotel via the #TwitterXmasSingle hashtag on Twitter.
