What to watch on TV tonight: Thursday

Here are the shows that’ll be on your Twitter timeline later.

EVERY WEEKDAY lunchtime, DailyEdge.ie rounds up the TV shows that you’ll be tweeting about tonight and talking about tomorrow.

Good Will Hunting (BBC One, 10.35pm) and Insomnia (RTÉ Two, 10.10pm)

BBC One and RTÉ Two have cleared the schedules tonight to show Robin Williams movies in tribute to the great comedian. There’s a world of difference between beloved classic Good Will Hunting and his against-the-grain portrayal of a troubled crime writer in Insomnia – and maybe that just goes to show Williams’ range. Watch and remember.

Dermot Morgan – Fearless Funnyman (RTÉ One, 10.15pm)

A repeat, this documentary… but when isn’t it worth taking a look back at the career of Dermot Morgan? Much more than Father Ted, he brought political satire to Ireland of a kind rarely seen before or since. RIP.

Kids With Cameras: Diary of a Children’s Ward (UTV, 9pm)

More than 100 young patients at Great North Children’s Hospital in Newcastle were asked to record the world from their point of view, for this very moving series. In this second episode we meet a 12-year-old recovering from a stroke, and a girl of nine with juvenile arthritis.

Everybody’s talking about: The Great British Bake Off

@BBCFood @BBCFood

There were almost 60,000 tweets about the second episode of GBBO’s fifth season last night – or roughly 1,500 every minute. That’s almost three times as many as its nearest rival Big Brother, and 14 times as many as the third-placed show 100 Year Old Drivers. Yes, the GBBO juggernaut is kicking back into gear. Anybody not watching it gets the Mary Berry Death Stare.

Or flick over for…

  • The Shelbourne (RTÉ One, 8.30pm) Someone wants the staff’s help filling a room with white roses for a wedding proposal. Bit much really.
  • Hot Fuzz (ITV2, 9pm) Simon Pegg and Nick Frost as inept cops… basically just being themselves.
  • Who Do You Think You Are? (BBC1, 9pm) Brian Blessed steps up to have his family history prodded and probed.
  • Live Athletics: European Championships (BBC2, 5pm) Four hours of non-stop SPORTING from Zurich. Settle in.

More: Mary Berry’s Death Stare is the most terrifying thing you’ve ever seen on TV>
