What to watch on TV tonight: Friday

Here are the shows that’ll be on your Twitter timeline later.

EVERY WEEKDAY lunchtime, DailyEdge.ie rounds up the TV shows that you’ll be tweeting about tonight and talking about tomorrow.

Alan Shatter on the Late Late Show (RTÉ One, 9.35pm)

After being forced to resign earlier this year, the former justice minister has hardly been keeping quiet – calling for the heads of the Garda Ombudsman commissioners last week in an angry Dáil outburst. He appears on the Late Late Show tonight, and many are expecting a dramatic performance. #latelate

Gogglebox (Channel 4, 9pm)

It’s BA-ACK! Channel 4′s hit watching-people-watching-TV show returns for another series, and frankly anyone who enjoys excellent television should be watching. Sure Alan Shatter will probably be on last anyway, so you can watch this and then turn over. #gogglebox

Strictly Come Dancing (BBC1, 9pm)

New series of the ballroom-dancing juggernaut, which is running over two nights each weekend for the next… well, ages. It has its usual faintly bizarre smorgasbord of celebrities, including Gregg Wallace from Masterchef, Pixie Lott, Frankie Bridge from the Saturdays and Mark Wright from TOWIE. #strictly

On the other chat shows…

  • Graham Norton (BBC1, 10.35pm) Denzel Washington, Peter Capaldi
  • Alan Carr (Channel 4, 10pm) Lionel Richie, Nick Grimshaw and Jessie J.

Everyone’s talking about: True Detective Season 2

Following the announcement of Colin Farrell and Vince Vaughn as two male leads in the much-hyped second series, there are multiple reports today that Rachel McAdams – aka Regina George – could be set to join them.

Sources tell Variety HBO has offered McAdams the part opposite Colin Farrell and Vince Vaughn. Taylor Kitsch is expected to land the role of the fourth lead.

Does this mean that True Detective will essentially feature the cast of an early-2000s knockabout comedy? Well, yes. Yes it does.

Or flick over for…

  • Hozier on Later With Jools Holland (BBC2, 11.05pm) Ireland’s great musical hope gets an important showcase in the UK.
  • The X Factor (TV3, 9pm) First episode of the boot camps.
  • The Ryder Cup (BBC2, 8.30pm) Highlights of the day’s action.
  • Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars (BBC4, 9pm) Documentary about David Bowie’s final gig as Ziggy.
  • Animal House (UTV, 11.45pm) The original college-kids-playing-up movie. Stands the test of time.
