Tourism Ireland's clever new ad campaign for Dublin involves getting the shift

From a stranger!

TOURISM IRELAND HAS launched a new campaign aiming to attract more visitors to Dublin and Belfast. And it’s surprisingly smart.

The aim is to attract “social energisers” in the UK – young adults or couples, looking for something “new and different” in a holiday.

For the Dublin campaign, they’ve made a video quiz featuring eight couples having a cheeky smooch.

But here’s the thing: four of the couples are real, and four of of the couples are complete strangers meeting for the first time.

The aim is to guess which couples are real – and then give your answers in a quizIt’s really quite difficult.

You’re then invited to share your result with the hashtag #LoveDublin – which people on Twitter have been using for some time to share nice moments around the city.

The campaign comes on the heels of the First Kiss phenomenon earlier this year. The First Kiss video, which claimed to show 20 pairs of complete strangers kissing, went viral and has clocked up 91million views on YouTube so far.

(First Kiss was later revealed to be a fake of sorts, using professional performers rather than ‘real’ strangers.)

There’s also a Belfast version of the campaign which has a similar concept. In it, viewers are invited to look at eight photos taken around the city, and guess which were taken with a smartphone filter and which with an actual vintage camera.

Tourism Ireland is hoping that each video will be seen by around 250,000 people across the UK over the next four weeks.

So what do you think? Are these new campaigns a good idea?
