KATIE HOLMES IS believed to have filed for sole custody of Suri, her 6-year-old daughter with Tom Cruise, in the wake of her unexpected announcement that the couple are to divorce.
The 33-year-old filed a petition for divorce from Cruise yesterday. In a statement, a spokesperson for Tom Cruise said he was “deeply saddened” by the move and is “concentrating on his three children”.
A lawyer for Katie Holmes said that the primary concern for the actress was “as it has always been, her daughter’s best interest”.
Holmes filed for divorce in New York citing “irreconcilable differences”. She has requested sole legal custody of Suri according to US website TMZ. The site always she has asked for a division of property and a suitable amount of child support.
It doesn’t seem all that long ago that Cruise was jumping up and down on Oprah’s couch as he told the audience in abundant detail how much he loved Holmes:

The couple are believed to have signed a prenuptial agreement before they married in November 2006 which will guarantee that Katie Holmes receives a certain amount of money every year.
However the Daily Telegraph has speculated that Cruise may pay out more money to Holmes in order to ensure that some details about their marriage are not made public.
The divorce announcement comes just days before Tom Cruise turns 50 later this week.
This was the third time that Cruise had been married, after previous marriages to Nicole Kidman and Mimi Rogers both ended in divorce. It was the first marriage for Katie Holmes.
