Time magazine ignores readers' choice for Person of the Year

Taylor Swift is on the shortlist. Narendra Modi isn’t.

THE RESULTS OF Time Magazine’s online poll for Person of the Year are in.

Readers have chosen Indian PM Narendra Modi out of the fifty candidates released by Time last month, but he hasn’t made the magazine’s ultimate shortlist for Person of the Year.

Ferguson protesters, Nobel Peace Prize winning Pakistani activist Malala Yousafzai, medical staff treating Ebola and the Hong Kong protest leader Joshua Wong rounded out the readers’ top five.

Time says a “strong showing of readers from India helped drive Modi’s first place finish” with 17 per cent of overall votes coming from India.

Modi may not have made the shortlist, but Taylor Swift did.
