Builders surprise man with 1966 time capsule hidden by his late wife

SOB. We can’t cope.

A WIDOWER GOT a wonderful surprise when a builder working on his old home unearthed a time capsule concealed in a wall by his late wife.

Contractor John Murray and his crew were renovating the 1950s Arizona home when they discovered the box Betty Klug had hidden a decade before she died in a car crash aged 43.

Speaking to KPNX 12 News, Murray said it was a chance discovery.

It was on the floor over there with a pile of insulation. We’ve done hundreds of houses but never found anything like this.

The open boxed contained a family photo and letter from September 27, 1966, her husband Bruce’s birthday. Betty was 33 at the time and wrote about the cultural and political climate at the time.

The Vietnam War is still going on. Racial situation very serious. Boys have long hair resulting from the Beatles craze.

Murray contacted local news station KPNX, who helped track down 79-year-old Bruce in Scottsdale. The widower didn’t know the capsule was there, and had sold the house in 1980.

Bruce fondly remembered his wife, saying,

We had the best marriage. Not once did we argue about anything.

A clearly emotional Klug thanked John for bringing the discovery to him, saying “I enjoyed it, thanks”.
