STUCK IN THE middle of an awkward conversation? On a terrible date that’s going downhill?
You need a phantom phonecall and there’s an app for that now, apparently.
An ad for Tickle – a new iPhone app that claims to help you get out of awkward situations – is doing the rounds on the internet.
It claims that by using your phone’s accelerometer – that’s the thing that helps your phone decide which way is up or down – it will “generate a phantom phone call when you touch your phone in an awkward manner”.
In other words, if things are going badly give your phone a rub in the right direction and hey presto, it’s ring-a-ding-a-ling time.
The app’s official website makes some rather interesting promises too:
Over time, Tickle learns to predict when and around who, awkward situations are most likely to arise. It adjusts to fit your needs.

The website claims Tickle – which is not to be confused with the Android app of the same name – is still in development so it’s not available to download yet, but there are a few testimonials from alleged BETA testers.
Kelsey M says:
Tickle is perfect for group dinners or run-ins with coworkers. I used to just feign illness or mumble to myself — now I always have a legitimate reason to excuse myself and it’s amazing.
Either this is the BEST invention ever, or cocreators Alex Cornell and Phil Mills have pulled off one fantastic publicity stunt.
