‘The Republic’s court jesters’: The Guardian praises… Jedward

"Oh My God, The Guardian? We've totally made it now John!"

THE INDEFATIGABLE JEDWARD have earned high praise from an unlikely quarter – The Guardian newspaper in Britain.

In its editorial today the so-called ‘organ of the middle class’ which would normally devote its editorials to matters of great importance such as the Arab Spring or the eurocrisis today devotes part of its comment to praising “the twins from west Dublin” who “have become the Republic’s court jesters.”

The centre-left broadsheet newspaper notes that John and Edward Grimes, as they are known to their mum and dad, have been “cheering their nation up with their hyperactive on-screen antics and unflappable optimism.”

On Planet Jedward – their official website – the Irish people can forget their troubles for a while and laugh at the boys’ camp self-mockery and their ceaseless energy.

And the paper notes rather ironically that the brothers Grimes are currently touring Germany in their “deliciously appropriately titled” Victory Tour which could be seen as the least Ireland could do given the amounts Germany is reportedly contributing to our EU-IMF bailout.

Personally find them annoying, over confident and symbolic of all the worst attributes of modern teenagers. Thankfully they re not representative of mainstream teens who are mature and mannerly.

They’re just two young boys having a laugh & living their dream doing nobody any harm! They must be doing something right if they’re still around! Fair play 2 them!

I think they’re great. They’re having a good time and enjoying the most of their current run of success. Good on them.

Why do they always have their mouths wide open like that? Is there something wrong with them?

They are way past their sell-by date at this stage. They’re not even funny.

They’re incredibly irritating but not quite as irritating as being patronised by the smug twats at The Guardian

Well they are taking the title of ” court jesters” away from our politicians, so I am now publicly changing my stance on them, a good diversion for the public , who just may not notice the real clowns on this fading republic.

Pair of clowns. They were on both the Jimmy and Alan Carr shows over Christmas and they had the piss taken the whole time for being idiots.

I used to really dislike them but they wore me down. They make me laugh – what can I say. It’s true, though, that I’d hate to be stuck in a lift with them. Thing is, the demented kiddy schtick can only last so long. They’re – what, 21? – now? It’s going to get kind of creepy pretty soon. Still, fair play to them for earning the millions to keep them in lollipops well into their dotage.

Well I’d be far from a fan (I’m not their target audience lol) but I’d take their jumping around and general idiocy over the performances of some others who gyrate and act sexually when performing for pre-teen aged target audiences.

They were slaughtered on tv over xmas by every ‘host’ and guest they shared the screen with, they came across as a pair of mentally deficient morons who are too thick to even realise when they are having the piss taken out of them. They are an embarrassment to the Irish nation and are fuelling the growing re-surgance in the old ‘thick paddy’ stereotype which is rapidly making a comeback thanks to the economic incompetence of the Irish govt,/banks etc, and political gobshites like Cowen and Ahern. The Grimes parents need to get a grip, can’t they see that their kids are being lined up for ridicule by practically every comedian and chat show host on whichever show they appear, talk about prostitution these two fools are being hired out for every two bit tv show to take the piss out of them and it is just excruciating to watch them as they act like two squeaking toddlers trying desperately to attract attention.

I agree that they are just two lads having a bit of craic but I do not think they are great representatives for Ireland at all. In the past week I have seen comedians ridiculing Jedward and using an Irish accent to do so which I personally find offensive.

Funny what people see, I see a pair of 20 year olds enjoying life without hurting anyone , not to mention the amount of charity work they do. Can any of the begrudgers top that? I wouldn’t think so, keyboard warriors!

I met them.never understood a word they said.but as one min said she is happy her kids like them .why I asked .they are never seen falling out of pubs or smoking.dont have half naked sexy dancers for pre teens. Good to their pre teen fans . They are having a laugh. There will always be the arrogant ones in the UK who put then down .they can have their dopes like frankie cocozza . They gave Ireland a respectable showing in the eurovision .remember when we all teeny boppers listening to our pop music. The 20 and 30 year olds hated them. I had cousins who despised britney spears et al.

Annoying and not very funny, but let’s self-reflect on how we would have acted given the same opportunities at their age. I would have milked every last bit of fun I could from my fifteen minutes of fame.

What harm do they do? None! People who dislike these guys should try jumping around, spiking their hair up and letting go of their inhibitions! They are a positive influence on young kids! I say let them be!
