What a lot of hunts

Most people see nothing wrong with folk drinking, or riding horses and drinking, or people with horses and hounds galloping across country after a “drag”…or artificial scent. What many Irish people oppose is hunts hounding a wild dog- the fox- to exhaustion and death for “sport”. Or blooding novice hounds on fox cubs. Or using spades, terriers, and poles wrapped with barbed wire to unearth foxes that have sought refuge underground

Hunts can enjoy almost every aspect of the traditional hunting experience, including all the pomp and ceremony, but minus the kill and the suffering of the animal and the smearing of fox blood on their faces, if they switch to drag hunting, as to be fair to them, the Ward Union appears to have done since the government banned staghunting.

Terrorising and cruelly killing an animal for fun is very different from non-bloodsporting equestrian activity. It belongs on the same page of our Law Books as dog fighting and badger baiting. Fox hunting was banned in Britain under a Labour government and the present Tory administration appears unlikely to reverse that ban, just as Fine Gael had to go back on its pledge to restore the practise of staghunting. Ireland should now also consign foxhunting to the history books.

This hunt were exposed for digging out foxes with terriers a few years ago. a video was found with footage they made themselves.The video exposed the true nature of hunting.

Orla, they could have a great day also without causing any suffering to an animal. That’s what drag hunting is all about. Tradition is no excuse for terrorising or cruelly killing an animal.
