The only answer is glass bottle. Would happily pay for glass bottles of milk be delivered to door again.

I loved when the bottles would have Christmas-themed tops on them in December.

I actually wrote to Avonmore/Glanbia about this years ago.

They said they the milk in plastic containers can taste different if exposed to light, for example sunlight exposure (during transport or if the milkman leaves it outside) breaks down the whey proteins and causes oxidation of milk lipids. However, milk in cardboard containers or Tetrapaks is not exposed to light at all!

So.. cardboard milk tastes nicer!

I’d say glass if it was widely available but as it is has to be from a carton. Weird taste from plastic milk. Can taste it in tea, on cereal etc.
Strangely I’ve never met anyone else outside of immediate family who feel the same so it’s reassuring to see there are others out there who feel the same :)

Surely the inside of Tetrapaks have a plastic coating so it is the same anyway. Now if we were talking about glass bottles of milk delivered in the doorstep when you had to race to get it before the birds pecked through the foil cap to get the cream. Now that tasted different although when I was that age it was sunny every day & there was no crime, people respected their elders etc etc etc.
I think I may still be drunk! ;)

I am so happy to see this poll. Have struggled for years with this one, no one seems to believe me that there is a terrible taste from plastic bottles!

Growing up on a dairy farm had the luxury of taking it straight from the cooling tank. Delicious.

Glass bottle by a country mile. I remember racing the brothers to the fridge to get the cream on top for the cornflakes.

Milk is better from carton or even nicer still from a glass bottle. The plastic bottles are horrific!

I remember when me mammy used to give me the cream from the top of the milk on my porridge!! Lovely !! Maybe it’s the only way I would eat it, can’t remember!! Bring it back in a glass bottle I’d say!!

Glass all the way! But it is rare enough to find so I would go with the carton every time (which is surprisingly difficult to find here in London). My parents won’t drink out of the plastic bottles unless in dire circumstaces; its one of their pet hates when they have to go for milk (for an emergency tea session of course!) and there is only plastic bottles left.

As a kid I used to be able to tell the difference – I hated milk from plastic bottles. I wouldn’t drink it and always noticed the difference- even in tea or cereal. As I grew older and taste buds developed I just couldn’t tell the difference- probably due to alcohol :)

Glass bottle. Definitely the best. Cold and accompanying a meal of mince turnip and potato all mashed together with oxtail soup and butter all mashed up in one big pile.

I had to give up getting my milk delivered back in the ’80′s. The house faces east, the milk was delivered at 3/4 o’clock in the morning. The milkman wouldn’t leave it in the shade as I requested and by 7/8 o’clock it had gone sour in the summer. So I had to cancel. First world problems!
Would love non-homogenised milk back! And Jersey milk!

It took me until I had read about halfway down the comments to realise what plastic “bottles” the question meant… Aren’t they more often called “cartons” or “drums” (in my house at least, especially the big ones)?

In no way can you call the object in the second picture a “bottle”! Sorry for the buzz-kiling pedantry. Say no to plastic! Tetrapaks are the way to go.

How much of our milk is fluoridated I wonder? And to what extent? Couple that chemical additive with the plastic packaging, which contains high amounts Bisphenol-A, among other chemicals, which is a known carcinogen and you’re seriously affecting your body and your mind. Glass and card are the lesser of the two evils.
