I remember about 20 years ago the man from Ballygowan telling Gay Burne that he was going to sell bottled water to the irish.

He was laughed of the show by Gay and the audience.

I have had this conversation a couple times a year this past few years and bottled water is the safest bet when it comes to quality. In the past I have lived in places where I would have described the water as “creamy”, “limey” and even lumpy but in the past year I have moved to an older part of the city (Dublin) and the water from the tap here is absolutely bottle worthy to my delight.

Where i live in Donegal we don’t even have mains water. So, It’s bottled for me. But i would have no problem drinking tap water, given half the chance.

It should be a human right to have access to clean and pure water on tap.
That’s why we pay taxes.!

Is fluoride added to bottled water?

I love uisce.. The water I normaly drink comes from a underground stream. Doesn’t taste so you know its good..Can’t get much more natural. No human intervention. I think the price is also a factor here in mainland europe where bottled water is not classed as a luxury but as an everyday purchase you can buy 1.5 lit local sparkling / still water for as little as 25 cents how come the likes of an irish equivilant are at least 1.35 , there is must always be profit but this is a joke, I can go to a local sping fill my own bottles and pay only 5 cent per lit work it out lads, another rip off for the books

Cannot stand Dublin or ‘townie’ water, but I’ll happily drink tap water in the countryside! The crisp refreshing water from a well in a limestone region beats a bottle of riverock any day.

833 million people in the world with no safe drinking water source (ref Worldometers.info). What would they make of our limey/chlorine tap water complaints. My tap water will do just fine…

On the international space station, the astronauts/cosmonauts drink filtered triple distilled urine and exhaled water vapor. No fluoride. Don’t forget to brush, dear.

I prefer bottled, but for economic reasons I filter our ap water. I’m in a relatively new development and the water is lousy if it’s not filtered.

I like limier water. And a lot of bottled water seems to be pretty limey too. I can understand why people in some built up area’s might not like the local water supplies, but in the majority of places I’ve lived the tap water is fine, and if the tap water is not fine I don’t live their very long. So Tap get’s my vote.

Can either every be trusted?

Tap water all the way, no matter where. With a filter if necessary. The plastic bottles used for bottling water are a disaster for the environment. Why add unnecessarily to the ever growing plastic problem? Of course, I understand that there are areas where tap water is undrinkable or unavailable, but I find, if it’s a case of taste, you get used to the different tastes quickly enough. We should be aiming to reduce the amount of plastic we use daily, and cutting out bottled water is a great place to start!

New burning question. Is lunch really dinner?

The tap water in London when used to make a cup of tea covers the inside of the cup in brown crap that looks disgusting and is very hard to get off. Also smells of Chlorine.

Bottled water lacks fluoride, which prevents tooth decay in the population… Not to mention its a pointless environmental disaster in itself.
