Does any one remember the Smiley bar? The orange flavored variant of the Chomp? I’d give my right nut to have a box of them now!!

What about the incredible shrinking curlywurlys ? When I was a wee lad they were 3 inches wide and almost as long as your leg, now they just look like a small toffee bar with holes in it.

Wham Bars were amazing!!! Also you couldn’t go wrong with a Woppa Bar for 5p :)

And what about those delish Tangy bars! They were 5p & came in Spearmint & Lime flavours-yum! Incidentally anyone remember the Sky Bar? It was an ice cream bar covered in smooth chocolate, creamy ice cream with a thin long piece of wispa type chocolate in the middle..heaven! Why would they take them away from us….WHY?!! ;)

A Dan bar, 10 fizzy colas and a packet of Mummies for 30p, that was heaven!!

I still remember the day a sparkler ice pop went from 10p to 12p! outraged we were. twas the talk of the village all week!

I lost many teeth to those big time bars. Good times and those chomps were tasty.

Loved the Chomp , I used to open the wrapper, carefully roll it up catching the chocolate cracking off it , down the hatch in one for chocolatey chewy heaven !

Hot dog flavour CRUNCHOS for 12p a packet. They were my favourite! I wish they brought them back along with fat frogs but hate to think what price they’d be!

Burger Bites!

In 30 years time people are going to be saying how they remember getting a can of coke for a euro and animal bars were only 30 cent, and their children will be shocked at how cheap everything was.

I loved them all. Used to buy Blackjacks and LLC drops all the time.
Ever put a mars bar into the freezer !.. Only flippin fantastic.
Havn’t had any in many years now as it all caught up with me and I ended up as a type 2 diabetic.

Half the stuff ye are talking about is still around. Chomp, Roy of the rovers , burger bites etc.
Displays just aren’t as big anymore. Retailers won’t give prime location to a 20c bar when they shove mars, twix etc under your nose that cost over a euro

I’m more outraged that the puzzles in Animal bars haven’t changed since my childhood! :) 10p Chomps and Freddos….and my favourite, the Strawberry Taz bars!

Your 20p a week pocket money stretched so far, you felt like a king once you’d been to the shop. Now 20c wouldn’t buy you sod all, but then I wonder how many kids these days get 20c for pocket money?!?!

What about broken Kit Kat…went home after being away for years, went back to the same shop and the man said ” Ah missus, that went out with the Indians!” Another shop in Camden St. had Kit Kats 5 for £1, I said no, they have to be broken. She said “ah. I’ll break them for you then”

lts not only the price. Size and quality have diminished hugely. A chomp used to be chewy, now its tiny and lasts 10 seconds because its like soft cardboard !!

Snax and chip stix were only 6p and same for Chilly Willys! Sweet popcorn 4p, loved smiley bars and Texas bars and my favourite treat was being brought to the cinema and getting the orange maid ice pop and cinema popcorn for 50p!! There were lovely Dracula ice pops as well and other pear ones but can’t remember the names, walls made them and only a few shops had the Walls ice creams. Snuff Box on Sycamore Road had the best stuff!! Could stay in there for hours!

Does anyone remember those Chocolate Fags?? They came in a paper box and looked identical to actual cigarettes. We were about 8yrs old, going around pretending to smoke and then proceed to eat the “cigarette” of deliciousness. Crazy thinking about it now!

HB were running a poll last summer or something like that… Might have been on Facebook even. Anyway the question was which lollipop to bring back. Winner was fat frog! Should be back for 2013!

Perri crisps were great. On occasions you would win real money in little golden packets inside the bags, and Ghosties for 10p! I used to save up to buy whole boxes for a tenner and munch away while playing Mario on the SNES!

Probably for the best… Kids nowadays are given too much walking around money, we’d be the most obese nation in Europe if prices were still that low for sweets ha!

Before decimalisation on 15th February 1971, there were 240 pennies, 480 half-pennies and 960 farthings in a pound, so we could have bought 960 sweets for a pound – If we had a pound!

united bar for 5p (anybody recall the add on tv very good) not your reg can you could get a super can of coke for 35p and we would keep the rings in top i think for a charity or there was one offer to find a code under the ring. 54321 bars

Very few people seem to remember the Whoppa bars when I ask. I would do anything to taste those again! BTW, last time I checked the newsagent beside Deveneys off-license in Dundrum sell some of the auld sweets. Have a peek.

I know this is a bit more recent, but does anyone remember the Smarties bars from about ten years ago? You could get brown ones and white ones, and they all had multicoloured Smarties in them… You just can’t get them now! And Nestle had a bar out around the same time called Double Cream- that disappeared too!! Also Cadbury’s Biscuit Bar, Whole Nut & Dairy Milk fingered bars (like a Kitkat!), Cadbury’s Hazelnut Crunch (think that’s what it was called, only just remembered it!)

Still remember the Postman Pats and Apple Jacks, and find it hard to believe you’d once get so much for 50p or even 10p, times have changed…
