Stephen Colbert to replace David Letterman as host of The Late Show

Letterman announced his plans to retire from the US talk show last week.

COMEDIAN STEPHEN COLBERT has been named as the next host of US talk show The Late Show, replacing current host David Letterman.

The news comes just one week after the veteran host announced his plans to retire in 2015 – he’s been presenting The Late Show for 21 years.

Colbert currently hosts and writes his own popular satirical news show, The Colbert Report.

CBS chairman Les Moonves said:

Stephen Colbert is one of the most inventive and respected forces on television. David Letterman’s legacy and accomplishments are an incredible source of pride for all of us here, and today’s announcement speaks to our commitment of upholding what he established for CBS in late night.

We won’t be seeing Colbert as the host of The Late Show until next year, but our early hope is that he’ll be doing a lot of this:
