SINCE IT’S RELEASE date in late October, the 23rd James Bond adventure has made history in the UK and become the highest grossing film of all time.
Taking in £94,277,612 (€116,154,913) at the UK box office in just 40 days, Skyfall has overtaken the record previously held by Avatar which had a lifetime gross of £94,025,632 (€115,835,370) during 11 months on release in UK cinemas.
The film, starring Daniel Craig as 007, is the biggest film of the year so far in Ireland taking in €5.7 million at the Irish box office.
Industry Affairs Executive with the Irish Film Board, Patrick O’Neill told TheJournal.ie:
It will probably end up at around €6 million [because it's still on general release] making it the biggest film of the year, unless The Hobbit does crazy figures in two weeks, which is unlikely. The Dark Knight will come in second at €5.5 million.
However, Skyfall has not surpassed Avatar’s box office success in Ireland, which took in €8.7 million in 2010.
Skyfall, part of the longest-running film franchise of all time, is ranked number six on the overall American box office chart for 2012, taking in $246,712,819 (€188,696,988) since its released.
