SINÉAD O’CONNOR will be hightailing it from Electric Picnic festival in Stradbally to make it in time for her reported appearance on The Late Late Show when it returns to screens next week.
The singer, who’s been hitting the headlines over the past few weeks because of her love life – or lack of it – has reportedly said that she’ll be going commando when she sits down with Ryan Tubridy in Donnybrook.
She’s due to play the the main stage at Electric Picnic at 5.30pm next Friday evening and on a Twitter account widely thought to be her’s, O’Connor denied reports she’d be wearing a fur coat but said: “I intend to be fully nude on The Late Late Show. With full hollywood.”
Although she later later tweeted she would not be allowed to go on nude, she added: ”I have agreed to wear thigh boots.”
Clothes or no clothes, an RTÉ spokesperson has told TheJournal.ie that it’s too early to confirm who will be appearing on the first show back.
Appearing with no underwear on would certainly be one way to stoke controversy, something O’Connor is no stranger to…
Saturday Night Live and the picture of the pope:
In 1992 Sinéad O’Connor ripped up a picture of Pope John Paul II while singing a version of Bob Marley’s song War in front of a stunned audience.
The Late Late Show with Kenny Everett:
In 1989 O’ Connor challenged comedian Kenny Everett live on the Late Late Show about his support for the Tory party.
Taxi for O’Connor:
In 1995 O’Connor appeared on the last ten minutes of the late night BBC debate show After Dark. She had called the show because she was interested in the discussion taking place about clerical abuse. The show’s producers sent a taxi to her house and she appeared alongside former Taoiseach Garret Fitzgerald, a Dominican monk and a representative of the Catholic Church.
