SINEAD O’CONNOR HAS pulled out of her scheduled appearance on Friday’s Late Late Show, saying it is “not a safe situation” for her.

The controversy-courting singer was due to be interviewed by Ryan Tubridy about her very public search for a “sweet, sex-starved man” in the first show of the new season. But she announced yesterday that she had changed her mind after speaking to a researcher for the RTÉ flagship, tweeting: “Have pulled out of L8L8. chat with researcher showed it wouldn’t be a safe situation for me to put myself in. Never saying more than dat”

Despite adding that she would “absolutely” never discuss the reasons behind her change of heart, O’Connor tweeted this morning that she would be explaining her decision via her website this afternoon. Yesterday, two hours after the announcement she had tweeted:

An RTÉ spokeswoman today confirmed O’Connor’s pullout to TheJournal.ie, saying: “We’re disappointed to hear Sinead has had second thoughts about the interview. We’d still love to have her on the show.” She would not say whether RTÉ were aware of the reasons behind the decision, adding: “We never discuss the specific details of negotiations around having a guest on.”

Sinead O’Connor – who recently launched a campaign to find a fella after posting an appeal on her website. However, not everybody need apply: she has ruled out all vehicle clampers as well as any men who shave, wax, dye their hair, use hair gel or aftershave, live with their mother or are aged under 44.

She appeared to have found a winner but later ruled him out, tweeting that he had “revealed a pregnant girlfriend”.

The singer will appear on radio station Classic Hits 4FM tonight to co-host a show with DJ Niall Boylan, discussing her view that many Irish women are reluctant to publicly talk about sex.
