dublin look up

Here's the story with those sparkly shoes on telephone wires around Dublin

No, it’s not just because someone’s feet were killing them.

I was pretty disappointed when I found out this is an art installation and not an act of defiance by someone walking home late at night or early in the morning who'd had quite enough of the heels, thank you. #dublinlookup #barefootisbetter animsarkisian animsarkisian

SHOES DANGLING FROM overhead wires isn’t an uncommon sight in many cities.

Various urban legends suggest that the shoes indicate a place to buy drugs or maybe a death due to drugs, that they represent a gang, or that they mark some kind of celebration.

Usually it’s a battered pair of runners, but in Dublin lately there’s been something exceedingly more glam drawing our eyes upwards.

Gold glittery stilettos have been showing up in various locations: Stoneybatter, Leeson Street, Drumcondra, Clanbrassil Street, Howth and many more.

And here’s why…

It’s part of a project to encourage Dubliners to ‘look up and put a sparkle in your step’.

Everywhere you see one of these signs:

You’ll see a pair of shoes:

So those glitter heels hanging from the wire do have a purpose! #dublinlookup #glitter #arbourhill #dublin cultural_eclecticism cultural_eclecticism
