Serendipity, a new feature on music streaming service Spotify, is a real-time, interactive map of listeners across the world.
It rearranges itself every three seconds to show two listeners in different parts of the world, listening to the exact same song.
It’s a little bit mesmerising to watch, not to mention chaotic on the ear drums.
If a song catches your ear, you can click on it to hear the entire thing on Spotify.
The map was created by Kyle McDonald, the music streaming service’s first Media Artist in Residence – Spotify’s Eliot Van Buskirk introduced the new feature in a blog post:
Although they might not speak the same languages, live in the same climates, or believe the same things, they’re playing the same song at the same time. We’ve always known that music brings people together – and now, we can see that togetherness in real time.
