JOHN LEGEND AND Common’s performance of Glory was one of the defining moments of the Oscars last night.

The theme from acclaimed Martin Luther King biopic Selma went on to win the award for Best Original Song.

It also got no fewer than three standing ovations, and had people in actual tears in the theatre.

In a ceremony that notoriously lacked racial diversity, it was a nod to the civil rights struggle.

But when RTÉ broadcast an edit of the Oscars ceremony last night – which had to be edited down to 90 minutes from the original several hours – the song was cut in the middle to go to an ad break.

As of this morning, the song was not part of the the RTÉ Player’s version of the ceremony, where the transition looked like this:

RTÉ has now apologised for the edit, which it said was a “broadcast error”. The broadcaster added that the 90-minute edit was prepared by “the Oscars themselves”.

Here’s the statement in full:

RTÉ acquires a 90 minute international version of the Oscars which is cut and edited by the Oscars themselves. However due to a broadcast error there was a disruption to the John Legend performance for which we sincerely apologise. The full version of John Legend’s performance will be available to view on the  RTE Player shortly.

This is good, because a lot of people were angry. It even got a bit political.

This could be the new water protest.

But we’re here for you. Here is the song, in full. Enjoy.
