KATE MIDDLETON has chosen a rank outsider to design her wedding dress, reports suggest.
The Huffington Post claims that designer Sophie Cranston of the little-known Libélula label has got the call-up for the royal wedding.
If the report is true, it ends weeks of frenzied speculation in which Bruce Oldfield, Alice Temperley, Sarah Burton of Alexander McQueen, Jasper Conran and even Victoria Beckham were all linked to the design gig of the century.
The 34-year-old designer’s talents caught the princess-in-waiting’s eye after she wore a black velevet, vintage-inspired Libélula frock coat to a friend’s wedding in January.
According to the Huffington Post, Libélula is known for its “feminine, figure-flattering silhouettes, luxurious fabrics, and vibrant use of colours and prints”.
Cranston trained with Alice Temperley before setting up her label in 2002 from her home in Southern Spain, Vogue reports.
The label’s website crashed earlier today.
