My mom would’ve KILLED me if I’d nabbed a snack from the trolley like that brazen in the Centra ad. Does anyone remember another ad for Stag, set at night, pictures of a stag in the moonlight and I think the caption was “stag: follow your instincts”?

Just a minor point of order, for which Eamon and his fellow Poxmen of the Horslypse would probably thank me; the Mirinda ad was actually the reason Horslips came about, as the band members got together for the first time to make the ad, and ultimately formed a band together.

The recession was still going strong in my house in 1992 when I got the Atari for Christmas. Imagine handing a young lad a Nokia 5110 now you’d get some looks. I wouldn’t mind I was delighted.

The old cigarette ads always make me laugh “cool refreshing flavour” ha ha, so strange ta think these ads wer the norm, I’d say one day wel look back at ads for alcohol and think the same

Stag was not a lager, it is/was a perry ( which is essentially a cider made from pears.
I may be wrong but I think they used pears to get round the duty on cider

Mirinda is an awesome drink. My da got some in a Chinese shop in town a couple of years ago after we saw the ad on Reeling in the Years. Delicious.

Of course the RTÉ Guide was in space…hence it being a star read every week! Wow the Stag ad is smouldering…like a Brian Ferry video…and that jingle for the Centra ad is one of the most effective jingles in marketing history I’d say…it was tattooed on my brain and that YouTube clip has just reawakened the beast…the Calvita ad seems to have inspired Betty Drapers cistin in Mad Men. That first clip isnt jazz its blues. Jazz was and is too dangerous for Irish tv. The rural Irish mind wouldnt be able to handle it and it would lead to a zombie apocalypse type scenario with farmers across the country roaming around out of their heads with confusion.
