TO LLAMAS! The ad for the annual Guinness fundraising/publicity drive Arthur’s Day has the elder Guinness’s name passed all over the world like a Chinese whisper.

But how is Arthur’s Day – today, in the unlikely case you hadn’t noticed – translating to the rest of the world?

In Jamaica, rising reggae star I-Octane (Who A Fool Dem, No Inna Dem hitmaker in case you didn’t know) told the Jamaica Gleaner that he is “humbled” to be performing for “Sir Arthur’s Day” in Kingston town. He said: “Gunness ‘a go so hard’ so families can see (the concert)” and said the company invests in reggae and dancehall artistes.

One of the venues involved in the Kingston town toast is Usain Bolt’s restaurant/bar/nightclub, Usain Bolts Tracks and Records (see his gaff here). Usain Bolt powered by pints of Guinness? So that’s it.

I-Octane is going to hop across to Guyana as well according to the Guyana Chronicle. The paper’s history lesson on Arthur Guinness describes his move from Leixlip to Dublin city as a “bold move”.

In Malaysia, they’ve brought British R ‘n’ B singer Taio Cruz in to perform at the Selangor Turf Club in Kuala Lumpur. Local paper The Sun Daily reports Cruz as saying he’s known about Guinness “since I was a child”. In Kuching, they got thirsty early, judging by this pic of Guinness drinkers from last weekend in the Borneo Post.

Australia is taking pride that it’s one of the last stops for the toast – TimeOut Sydney is promising “a bang Arthur would be bloody proud of”.
