Poll: Do you want new ministers or an election?

The government could be on the verge of collapse – but do you want new ministers to keep the country ticking over first?

A GENERAL ELECTION now looks a distinct possibility, following the withdrawal from six ministers from cabinet and the Greens being reportedly on the verge of withdrawing from power altogether.

But if the Greens were to walk today, and trigger an immediate election, the six vacant government ministries would stay empty until after the election – meaning there would be nobody in key positions like Transport, Health or Justice.

If those ministries were filled, those ministers would remain on in a caretaker basis until their replacements are appointed. If they were left vacant, there would be nobody in power until the new cabinet is formed.

Would you rather keep those ministries empty, and stop Fianna Fáil from remaining in power for that long, or should Ireland try to appoint new ministers before the government collapses?
