Organise your own social media event

Mashable’s third annual Social Media Day takes place on 30 June – get involved by organising or attending a Social Media Day Meetup in your area.

THE THIRD ANNUAL Social Media Day is being held at the end of this month – and everyone is invited.

Social media enthusiasts are invited to join in by attending or hosting their local Meetup (check out your area here).

On Social Media Day last year, more than 1,4000 events took place across the world – and this year is expected to be even bigger. The event was launched by Mashable in 2010 and is growing in popularity each year by bringing together people with a passion for digital and social media.

For more information, see www.meetup.com.

We know from the ‘tweet-ups’ we’ve been to, Ireland always makes a good fist of meeting with their social media pals in real life… If you have any good ideas for a meet-up, why not test the water by making a suggestion in the comments section?

  • Would the Journal not host an event so all the regular commenters can go along and slag each other in person?

  • And why not Wolfgang who ever you are. . the current situation is dire, causing my friends, neighbours and thousands of families incredible distress ? The website and political movement that’s been started since the 19th April is far larger than you give any credit for- and for those fellow countrymen who are members, contributing their time and energy – it’s they you insult with your cheap comments. Whatever happened to this marvelous welcoming multi-cultural society that the whole world hears of ? Thankfully you are not truly representative.

Wolfgang may not be the most polite of commenters but Martin, you do have a tendency to indulge in self-promotion on any politics-based article.

@ Martin ( by thejournal standards, a prehistoric thread, so of course this is a conversation with Martin ) – why not? There’s abolutely nothing wrong with self promotion. You have my respect, you’re dedicated. You’ve political ambitions and, to tou’re credit, you’re transparent about this as well. It does mean that you’re neither stupid nor naive. However, it also means that I will never trust you, nor will I ever take anything you say at face value. Rather I will always spend a moment to reflect on the potential advantage you expect to gain in any comment or exchange. I mean no person offence but, in my humble opinion, this is the healthiest way to approach anything said by a political or a person with political ambitions.

  • I don’t think writing 14,000 as 1,4000 is going to catch on either. Sorry Jen.
