Farmers claim to have grown onions that don't make you cry

You can no longer blame chopped onions for your feels!

GUYS, GOOD NEWS: Onion tears (and onion breath) may be a thing of the past.

Farmers in the UK claim to have grown a new variety of onion that will not make you cry while chopping it OR leave you with bad breath after dinner.

The Telegraph reports that after 20 years of cultivation (20 years!) a new red onion has been grown in Bedfordshire.

The new onion is reportedly less pungent than a traditional onion, and thus less likely to make your eyes water while chopping.

Supermarket chain Asda, who will be stocking the onions in the UK, claims that the lower levels of pungency mean the taste will no longer linger in your mouth after eating.

The supermarket recommends that you use the onions in salads and garnishes, or as an “accompaniment to mature cheddar”.

Do we believe it? Well, as they say, the proof of the onion is in the eating, and we won’t be getting them over here just yet. Onion breath remains a problem in Ireland for the foreseeable future.
