Did Tom Vaughan-Lawlor just confirm Nidge's fate?

The actor released a statement this afternoon.

ACTOR TOM VAUGHAN-Lawlor has released a statement following last night’s Love/Hate finale that appears to confirm the fate of Nidge, who was shot multiple times in the series five finale.

While many fans had accepted that Nidge was likely a gonner following his run-in with Patrick Ward, many held out hope that Love/Hate writers were just toying with our emotions and that Nidge was still alive.

However, this statement from Tom Vaughan-Lawlor appears to dash those dreams. In the statement, he thanked the cast and crew of Love/Hate and stated that he was looking forward to “new challenges”.

The last five years working on Love/Hate have been an incredible and unforgettable journey for me. I’ve had the privilege of working with a brilliant cast who I’ve learnt a huge amount from, a tireless and talented crew, a visionary director, an amazing group of producers from Octagon and RTE, and in Stuart Carolan a world class writer. I’m hugely grateful to the show and to its fans and I am equally looking forward to the new challenges ahead for me both on screen and stage. As I perform this week in Dublin in Howie the Rookie prior to touring it to London and New York I will take wonderful memories of Love/Hate with me together with all the things I’ve learnt on the show into my future work.

That all sounds fairly definitive to us.

Needless to say, it seems like it might be time to set up a bereavement support group for people affected by Nidge’s death.

#NeverForget.
